Pre-Stage is a monthly cars and coffee by the lagoon at the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael, the Frank Lloyd Wright building the organizer calls a masterpiece. The organizer’s site gives the rule plainly: “year-round, from 8am until 10am, 3rd Saturday of each month, rain or shine.” The next date is Saturday, November 21, 2026, and the site lists December 19 after that.

It is run by the people behind Breakfast Club Rally, the drive-event outfit whose name is on the site’s copyright line. The organizer’s own tagline sets the tone: “Cars and coffee for people who don’t dig Cars + Coffees.”

When to arrive

The gathering runs from 8am to 10am. The organizer’s Instagram tells cars joining a monthly feature display to arrive during load-in, between 7am and 8am. Everyone else can roll in any time in the two-hour window; the posts say to arrive “anytime you feel like it.”

It runs all year, rain or shine, per the organizer. Each month can carry a theme. November 2026 invites pre-2000 Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Volkswagen models into the feature area, with Porsches welcome in the main lot but not the feature.

Where to park

The organizer places the lot on Armory Drive where it meets Civic Center Drive, between the lagoon to the north and the pétanque court and dog park to the south. The site asks that cars of the non-Pre-Stage variety, meaning daily drivers and grocery-getters, park outside the Pre-Stage lot, along Peter Behr Drive or in a nearby lot.

The coffee

Coffee and pastries come from the Red Whale Coffee truck. The organizer says the coffee is roasted within two miles and that it is not free. Red Whale is the only vendor allowed to sell anything at Pre-Stage.

What kind of cars

The FAQ says Pre-Stage is not Euro-only, vintage-only or sports-car-only. It aims for “an eclectic mix of old and/or interesting vehicles, from the two wheeled to trucks,” from classic Porsches and Datsuns to rare modern specs, grey-market imports and backyard projects. Spectators are welcome.

Before you go

The organizer is blunt about driving: anyone planning to treat Marin Center like a racetrack should stay home, and the site notes that the Marin County Sheriff’s Patrol Division looks after the grounds. It also asks attendees to use the bins and not to punish others with their music.

There is a strict no-suitcasing policy. No for-sale signs, flyers, stickers, displays or wrapped-car advertising; only official sponsors may show products. There is no organized group drive afterward, but the organizer publishes a suggested backroads route, and Lucas Valley Road starts about four miles away.
