Cars and Coffee Irvine was the one the phrase came from, and it ended in December 2014. Cars and Coffee Aliso Viejo picked up its crowd, drew 500 to 600 cars by 2017, and is gone; its organizer’s page says it “is no longer around.” Cars and Coffee Dallas, the Saturday at Classic BMW in Plano that the region’s enthusiasts set their month by, held its last show on 1 December 2018. Its domain is parked. The directories that listed all three are still listing them.
None of these meets failed for want of cars. They failed the way a tenancy fails. A weekly car meet occupies somebody else’s asphalt on somebody else’s terms, usually unwritten, and it lasts exactly as long as the owner of the asphalt, the neighbors across the street and the crowd itself allow. The meets that have run for ten, twenty and forty years are not the ones that never had trouble. They are the ones that wrote the rule the morning after.
The landlord
The first way a meet dies is that the lot changes hands. Cbad Cars, in Carlsbad, has met every Saturday since 2005. It spent about a decade at the Carlsbad outlets, moved to the Costco lot on Palomar Airport Road, and left that when a management change revoked permission. It has been at Poinsettia Village since late 2016, and its hours are strict, 7am to 9am with no lingering, because a meet that has been evicted once knows what the next landlord is watching.
South OC Cars and Coffee, now the largest weekly meet in the country by its own claim, exists because of the same reflex. Its history page says it approached the Outlets at San Clemente “when rumors started about Aliso Viejo being closed down.” The organizers did not wait for the lot to go; they found the next one first.
Smaller versions happen every season. Cars and Coffee Woodbridge, in Virginia, moved to a Red Robin parking lot on the third Saturdays of September and October 2026 because Tackett’s Mill wanted its lot for a new community market. The organizer’s post thanked the center “for allowing us to use the lot for the past 5 years,” and moved. That is the whole relationship, stated by the tenant.
The neighbors
The second way is noise. Supercar Sunday began in 2000 as about twenty friends outside Village Coffee Roaster in Woodland Hills. Ventura Blvd magazine records the end of that chapter in one sentence: “After merchants complained about the crowds, he moved the event to the Promenade in 2009.” It has moved again since, to a Pierce College lot, and its rules page now explains each rule by the harm it prevents: revving “draws negative attention to the event,” and burnouts, hard launches and aggressive exits “put the future of the event at risk.” The organizer has lost a venue to attention before, and says so.
Caffeine and Octane, the first-Sunday show that calls itself the largest monthly in the country, spent its biggest years at Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody, Georgia. In July 2018, Reporter Newspapers covered the neighbors asking for quiet. The banners at the show that month read “Respect our neighbors. No loud revving” and “Be smart. No burnouts,” and a Dunwoody police sergeant told the paper that “The event organizers have been very responsive and have asked attendees to keep their noise down several times.” The show moved to Town Center at Cobb in Kennesaw in August 2022. Its rules today are in capitals: no revving, no burnouts, no loud music, no cruising, and no exits from the central lot before 11:30am.
Rancho Santa Fe Cars and Coffee runs on public streets in a village with bridle paths, and its rules are the most specific in the country about why: revving and speed are “a nuisance to local residents,” “dangerous to pedestrians,” and “spooks horses on the nearby trails.” Its guidelines page tells anyone unwilling to follow that to “reconsider attending the event.”
The crowd
The third way is success. Hunt Valley Horsepower, north of Baltimore, launched on 31 March 2012 with 200 cars. Its third anniversary, on 4 April 2015, brought “over 3000 automobiles and over 6000 enthusiasts - meeting the site’s overflow capacity,” per the organizer’s own history. It was the last anniversary the meet ever held. The organizer’s newsletter in October 2026, marking the 750th weekly gathering, explained why: the 2015 event “caused nearly a 5-mile backup from our gathering area that led onto I-83.” The meet chose to be smaller every week rather than enormous once a year, and it is still there.
The Potomac meet in Maryland did not get to choose. A car club forum that tracked it reported in May 2021 that “The Potomac Cars and Coffee got shut down due to people doing dumb things,” and that it was combining with the Poolesville meet twenty miles up the road. It runs there now, on the second and fourth Sundays, under the old name. The lot it lost is not named in the thread. It did not need to be.
What the survivors do
They park people. Hunt Valley Horsepower tells newcomers to “seek parking assistance from Will,” who is on a mountain bike near the middle entrances before 9am, and parks cars by marque so the lot flows. The Woodlands Car Club, at Market Street north of Houston, puts barricades up and tells its own members not to move them before 6:30am; display cars enter by the Starbucks entrance, fill out a waiver the first time, and cannot save a space. Caffeine and Octane assigns four gates by the kind of car and closes the central lot until the show ends.
They tell people when not to come. Supercar Sunday publishes its no-show dates, Easter and the holiday weekends, and posted a banner the week of 25 October 2026 saying there would be no show that Sunday. A meet that goes dark on purpose is one the landlord can plan around.
They name the arrangement. Hunt Valley’s guidelines page opens: “We’re approved guests of Greenberg Gibbons Commercial, the management team of Hunt Valley Towne Centre (HVTC). Be respectful guests.” One listing of Cbad Cars republishes the group’s own description of itself: not a formal organization but “individuals patronizing local businesses.” Mike Kearney, whose coffee house hosts Katie’s Cars and Coffee in Great Falls, Virginia, told the Great Falls Connection in 2018 that the meet had to be careful with the merchants whose lots it spilled into. Katie’s has run every Saturday since 2010 and spills into those lots still.
And they stay free. Donut Derelicts, which has met at a Huntington Beach donut shop every Saturday since 1985, has never had a fee, a club, a prize or a flyer, and is over by sunrise. The organizer’s whole account of its origin is a phone list with ninety names on it. It has outlasted every meet in this piece because there was never anything to shut down, only people who bought a donut and left.
What it means for a Saturday
Every rule on every meet page on this site is the residue of a morning that went wrong somewhere. The reader’s part is short. Arrive inside the window. Park where the organizer puts you. Buy something from the shop that lends the lot. Leave at a walking pace, with the throttle closed, because the exit is the moment the neighbors decide. The meets near you are listed by area, with each one’s rules and the date its details were last checked, at Cars and Coffee Near You.
