Region · central and southern New Jersey, from Princeton through the Delaware Valley, NJ

Porsche Club of America, Schattenbaum Region

Schattenbaum, the Porsche Club of America region for central and southern New Jersey since 1973, runs driver education at New Jersey Motorsports Park open to any track-worthy car, monthly meetings in Evesham, tours and an annual Oktoberfest.

Shade Tree Racing

The region’s About page describes Schattenbaum as serving central and southern New Jersey, from the Princeton area south through the Delaware Valley, with more than 500 members. It belongs to PCA’s Zone 1. The region was formed in 1973 by members of a race team who all owned Porsches; high on enthusiasm but low on funds, they called themselves Shade Tree Racing, and Schattenbaum is that name in German. The PCA region finder returns Schattenbaum for Cherry Hill and Princeton zip codes; across the Delaware, Riesentöter covers Philadelphia and parts of South Jersey too.

Monthly meetings at the Gibson House

Member meetings are monthly, with technical talks and member stories. The events page has held them at 7pm at the Gibson House, 535 East Main Street in Evesham, with pizza, soft drinks, beer and wine provided by the club. Topics run from “Porsche Books” to “Drive It or Store It,” an open forum on battery tenders, snow tires and whether to drive through the winter at all.

Driver education at New Jersey Motorsports Park

The driver education page lists several events a year at New Jersey Motorsports Park, 8000 Dividing Creek Road in Millville. Anyone with a car and a valid license can take part, with no prior track experience needed, and the region’s Thunderbolt Raceway listings open the events to any track-worthy car, members and non-members alike. Beginners start in the novice group with a certified instructor in the passenger seat, and the day alternates track sessions with classroom time. Drivers must be 18, run groups are capped, and helmets must be Snell M or SA 2020 or newer.

The Beginner’s Guide starts with advice to find a club member who has done it before. Registration runs through MotorsportReg. Every car needs a tech inspection signed by an approved inspector no more than a month before the event, and the guide’s checklist includes fresh brake fluid, lug nuts torqued to at least 90 ft-lbs and brake pads with at least half their material left.

Tours, the Showdown and Oktoberfest

The About page lists the Schattenbaum Showdown, an annual club race for licensed PCA racers, along with tours on New Jersey and Pennsylvania back roads, concours, and dinners. The annual Oktoberfest is held at Sebastian’s Schnitzelhaus, 43 Fort Dix Street in Wrightstown: guests gather at 5pm, dinner of sauerbraten, schnitzel and wurst comes around 6pm, the restaurant is BYOB and tickets sell only through the region’s registration link. The 2026 dinner sold out.

Joining

The About page directs new members to join PCA and select Schattenbaum as the region. The events calendar can be subscribed to in Google, Apple or Outlook calendars, which is the easiest way to see the next meeting when it is posted. The Porsche Club of America page has national dues and the join process.
