Porsche Club of America, Lone Star Region

The Lone Star Region is the Porsche Club of America in Greater Houston, Galveston and Beaumont. Its Saturday GTG coffee meets in six areas, HPDE and Car Control School at MSR Houston, Schnell Fest at COTA, touring, socials and the Lone Star magazine.

The area Lone Star covers

Anyone living in the Greater Houston, Galveston and Beaumont areas who joins the Porsche Club of America automatically becomes a member of the Lone Star Region, at no additional cost, per the region’s membership page. The home page places the region in PCA’s Zone 5, which covers most of Texas. PCA’s region finder returns Lone Star for downtown Houston, The Woodlands, Katy, Cypress and Galveston. When the Hill Country Region was chartered in 1977, Lone Star was one of three regions that gave up counties to it.

Get Togethers

The informal meets are called Get Togethers, or GTGs. The GTG page describes Saturday morning coffee meet-ups in six areas, because the region covers so much of the Gulf Coast, and members can go to as many as they like. A member who wants to start one in an area not yet covered picks a place, date and time and sends it to the GTG coordinator; if turnout holds up, it joins the official calendar.

GTG Central meets at The Podium at Porsche River Oaks, 4007 Greenbriar Drive, on the first Saturday of each month from 10am to noon. Another GTG meets at Porsche West Houston on the Katy Freeway, and GTG West meets on the fourth Sunday at Coffee Fellows, 3329 W Grand Parkway N in Katy.

Track, autocross and Car Control School

The region’s HPDE weekends are held at MSR Houston in Angleton, south of Houston. Beginners have a coach in the passenger seat at all times until they are evaluated for solo driving, and even solo drivers get a coach ride at least once each weekend, per the HPDE page. A sports car is not required, though pickups and certain SUVs are barred, the minimum age is 18, and the car needs a tech inspection by an approved shop within 30 days of the event. The calendar lists the Winter Warm-up at MSR Houston on 5 December 2026 at $360, and Austin Schnell Fest at Circuit of the Americas on 21 and 22 November, a joint event with the Hill Country and Maverick regions that is open to all makes with no club membership required.

Car Control School is a one-day parking-lot program at MSR Houston and one of the few Lone Star activities open to licensed drivers under 18, which the page suggests for a parent and a new driver. The year’s schools, typically four, are posted at the start of the year on ClubRegistration.net. The cost is $150 a driver, or $100 for Lone Star members, with 40 places per school. Gates open at 7am, the day runs to about 4:45pm, breakfast kolaches and box lunches are included, and the drills include a wet skid pad, decreasing-radius turns and a slalom. No helmet is needed at those speeds.

At autocross, PCA rules allow any licensed driver aged 16 or older. Beginner PCA members are always welcome, with no prerequisite beyond a safe car, while non-member entrants must already be experienced so that instructors can focus on member beginners. Two drivers can share one car.

Socials, touring and charity

The social committee runs dinners, happy hours, tastings, watch parties and Flat Six Socials at wine bars and restaurants. The holiday party is on 9 December 2026 at Anthonie’s Market Grill in Simonton, at $85. Driving tours go out every month or so, usually for a full morning, to country diners, wineries or historic sites, and many are charity events with a voluntary contribution; a Toys for Tots tour is on the calendar for 13 December 2026. The region’s charity partner is Child Advocates, Harris County’s court-appointed special advocate program, and Lone Star is the organizing partner for its Drive for Kids event at MSR Houston.

The region’s Concours d’Excellence scores the beauty and cleanliness of cars in PCA’s 14 divisions, with registration on ClubRegistration.net and judges’ training for volunteers. The quarterly Lone Star magazine has an archive on the site back to 2015.

New members

The membership page lists what membership brings locally: discounts on most PCA and Lone Star events, the quarterly Lone Star magazine, and discounts at Houston-area Porsche dealers, generally 10% off parts. The site also has a tool for designing your own name badge. Driven Life’s Porsche Club of America page covers national dues and the application.
