The area Hill Country covers

The Hill Country Region’s About Us page describes a region serving Porsche enthusiasts in Austin and the surrounding area since 1977, across 33 Central Texas counties, among them Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, Bell, Burnet, McLennan and Tom Green. Its New Member Guide names Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown and San Marcos among the places PCA assigns to Hill Country by ZIP code. The site gives two membership figures: more than 2,500 on the Join page and more than 2,000 on the home page.

How the region began

The Club History page traces Hill Country to the Longhorn Region, chartered in 1962 for San Antonio and Austin, which took in Travis County in 1965. Board meetings alternated between the two cities, and by the mid-1970s the Austin members wanted a region of their own. Lacy Seybold and 25 other members petitioned PCA, and the charter was granted on 18 July 1977, with the Longhorn, Maverick and Lone Star regions giving up counties to make it work.

Two early signature events have since ended: the Little Le Mans autocross, first run in 1980, and Porschedillo, a three-day August weekend of concours, autocross and touring. In 2017 the region hosted the first springtime Treffen at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines, with 230 members and 150 Porsches, per the same page.

The standing get-togethers

Most of the calendar is social and needs no booking. The home page lists three no-host Sunday mornings: Rudy’s BBQ at 7709 Ranch Road 620 on the first Sunday; 296 W. Mercer St in Dripping Springs on the second Sunday, with parking in the Nesthaven Properties lot and coffee at Mazama Coffee Roasters a short walk away; and Red Horn Brewery and Roastery in Leander, which doubles as an air-cooled Porsche meet-up. At Red Horn, members park on the north side of the building because the front lot is kept for regular customers. The Dripping Springs hours differ between the home page (9am to 11:30am) and the event calendar (8am to 10:30am), so check the week’s listing.

On the first Wednesday evening, Sippin’ in Drippin’ and the air-cooled meet-up share Oak Hill Social Coffee and Cocktails on US 290, 5pm to 8pm. Weekday events fill the rest of the month: a Ladies Luncheon on the first Wednesday, capped at 30 and booked through ClubReg with no walk-ins; Lunch Bunch, a members lunch at a different restaurant each month; Brewery Night on the third Thursday, with the November edition at Draught House Pub and Brewery on Medical Parkway; and a happy hour at Steiner Ranch Steakhouse on the fourth Wednesday, which the home page cancels for November and December. COBB Tuning, a region advertiser, opens its Austin headquarters on the first Thursday evening for a tech talk that the calendar marks as a non-PCA event open to other makes.

Tours, autocross and the track

Driving tours run 60 to 150 miles over two to four hours, usually end at a restaurant, winery or barbecue place, and begin with a mandatory drivers’ meeting, per the Driving Tours page. The region publishes GPX files for routes it uses, among them the Twisted Sisters loop on Ranch Roads 335, 336 and 337 from Leakey, the Devil’s Backbone on RM 32 between Wimberley and Blanco, and the spring Bluebonnet Tour from Leander over the Willow City Loop to lunch at Perissos Vineyard.

Autocross is held most often at the Travis County Expo Center. The autocross page describes a 7am arrival, a group course walk at 8am and runs from 9am to 3pm, with every driver also working a corner station. Novices can ask for an instructor and borrow a helmet when loaners are available. On track, Schnell Fest at Circuit of the Americas is the region’s main HPDE weekend, run with the Lone Star and Maverick regions and, per the home page, the Houston chapter of BMW CCA. Novices have a PCA instructor in the passenger seat for the whole weekend, and HPDE cars need a shop tech inspection beforehand.

Concours here is judged on cleanliness rather than originality, with a Preparation division meant for beginners. The Distinguished Speaker Series has brought in Magnus Walker, Bruce Canepa and Jeff Zwart, with recordings on the region’s YouTube playlist. Horizons, the quarterly print and digital magazine, won Best Newsletter Cover in PCA’s national contest in 2024, and Beyond the Paddock, a podcast hosted by past president Carl Rossi, profiles the volunteers. Members have helped decorate the Caswell House for its annual Christmas fundraiser and staffed shifts at the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry on West Braker Lane.

Dates on the calendar

The home page lists the HCR Holiday Party at The Oasis on Lake Travis on 5 December 2026. The calendar already carries Mozart’s Cars, Coffee and Croissants at Mozart’s Coffee Roasters in Austin for 9 October 2027, split into two sessions, 9am to 11am and 11am to 1pm, and members choose one.

New members

The New Member Guide is the region’s own onboarding: confirm the Hill Country assignment in your pca.org profile, sign up for the weekly e-news, start at a breakfast or a Lunch Bunch, and order the magnetic name badge the guide calls the club’s icebreaker. An annual New Member Social, held at venues such as Petrol Lounge, is set aside for meeting the leadership, and PCA Juniors is free for members’ children and grandchildren. National dues and the application are on Driven Life’s Porsche Club of America page.
