The area GPX covers
The Grand Prix Region, GPX, defines its area on its About Us page as the Los Angeles area bounded by the I-710 on the west, the I-5 on the east and the Orange County line on the south. It is one of 15 regions in PCA’s Zone 8, with about 700 members, and the home page says it is in weekly contact with more than 2,000 Southern California Porsche owners. PCA’s region finder returns Grand Prix for downtown Long Beach’s 90802 zip code.
The history page tells how it started. Two members of the Los Angeles Region, Tore Johnson and Ron Ramage, wanted more track and rally events and set out in the late 1970s to form a club of competitive members. Johnson and others lived in Long Beach, so the meetings were there, starting at a pizza restaurant with 14 members, and the name came from the Long Beach Grand Prix. PCA first turned the petition down for lack of members. The charter was signed on 7 February 1981, and the original GPX logo was drawn from Ramage’s 550 Spyder.
Breakfast Club and Third Thursday
Two dates repeat every month. The GPX Breakfast Club meets on the second Saturday, per the About Us page, from 8am to 11am at Scooner or Later, 241 Marina Drive in Long Beach, and the calendar posts it there through 2027. The history page credits Michael Dolphin with starting the breakfast meetings, originally in Redondo Beach. The Third Thursday Social runs from 6pm to 9pm at a venue announced each month. The board meets monthly on Zoom.
Driving, shows and tech
Each year GPX hosts several driving events, autocrosses, driving tours and a Concours d’Elegance, per its Club Activities page; the 2026 concours was at Lakewood Country Club. The New to PCA page adds drivers’ education weekends and competitive HPDE days at Willow Springs Raceway, and the home page features the region’s Day Away From Work DE and the Streets of Willow. The calendar also lists Morning Shift gatherings at the Porsche Experience Center in Carson.
Tech sessions cover Porsche repair and maintenance and sometimes stray beyond cars; the About Us page cites a past session at LA Helicopter. Members also join Zone 8 events and national ones such as Treffen and the Porsche Parade.
The region’s newsletter, The Circuit, comes in print and digital form, and the home page says it has won PCA’s Best in Class IV award six years in a row. Each year the region names an Enthusiast of the Year and a Competitor of the Year.
New members
Any PCA member in the region’s area is automatically part of GPX, per the New to PCA page. New members are welcomed at the yearly New Members BBQ, held at a member’s home, and the calendar is the suggested first step: “Join us at an event or two.” The Porsche Club of America page covers national dues and the application.
Is there a Porsche club in Long Beach?
Yes. The Porsche Club of America’s Grand Prix Region was founded by Long Beach members and named for the Long Beach Grand Prix, per its history page, and PCA’s region finder assigns downtown Long Beach to it.
When does the GPX Breakfast Club meet?
On the second Saturday of each month from 8am to 11am at Scooner or Later, 241 Marina Drive in Long Beach, per the region’s About Us page and calendar.
What is the GPX Third Thursday Social?

Where does the Grand Prix Region do track days?
