The area Golden Gate covers
The Golden Gate Region’s About page describes its territory as San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties, which takes in the city, the Peninsula and San Jose, and counts more than 3,800 members and affiliate members. The Loma Prieta Region’s join page confirms how assignment works: new members with a zip code in those three counties go to Golden Gate. The East Bay belongs to Diablo, which East Bay members of Golden Gate founded in 1984.
The About page puts the region’s weight on driving, with more emphasis on events that stretch the driving experience, alongside brunches, concours, picnics and barbecues.
Saturday fun runs
The Motoring page describes organized Saturday drives on Bay Area back roads, usually capped at about 40 cars in groups of ten, sorted from spirited to touring. Drivers meet between 7:30am and 8am for coffee, a safety briefing and waivers, leave by 8:30am and end at a casual lunch or picnic spot. Passengers ride free. A June 2026 recap shows the flavor: a drive from Livermore over Mines Road to the Mt. Hamilton observatory and down into San Jose, which the region calls its most technical outing of the year, with 365 turns and 15 hairpins in the first 31 miles.
Autocross
The autocross page lists 8 to 10 events a year on leased airfields such as Crows Landing and Salinas Municipal Airport. The club supplies an instructor, a loaner helmet and even the tape for a number. Drivers get 8 to 10 timed runs split between morning and afternoon sessions, compete within PCA Zone 7 classes, and chase class trophies and an overall PAX championship decided at the year-end awards. Non-Porsche drivers are welcome and run in a Fun Class.
Track
The Track page offers high performance driver education, time trials (brought back in 2023 and run in the last two hours of each Sunday event) and PCA club racing. New track drivers complete the Student program, riding with an instructor until signed off to solo, while experienced drivers can apply for a waiver with endorsements from other organizations. The region’s 2026 track season closed at Sonoma Raceway, and its July track update said a club race at Laguna Seca was being organized. An October cars and coffee with charity parade laps at Sonoma raised more than $1,000 for the Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA.
Social
Monthly cars and coffee gatherings often feature a partner business. In 2026 one at Dynamic Detailing drew more than 220 cars, and another was the region’s first with the VW Innovation and Engineering Center California in Belmont. Friday evening socials fill in between. Once a year the region holds a concours in the Zone 7 series, and the Porsche brunch at Alice’s Restaurant, where Highways 35 and 84 meet in Woodside, is open to all members. The social season ends with the awards banquet in mid December or early January, held in the past aboard the USS Hornet, at Canepa’s and at the Blackhawk Museum.
The region’s blog, The Nugget, posts autocross and drive reports, the president’s column and board minutes.
New members
New members are invited to periodic New Member Mixers by email. Fun run details also go out only by PCA email to Golden Gate members, so the address on file with PCA matters. For national dues and the online application, see the Porsche Club of America page.
