Porsche Club of America, Diablo Region

The Diablo Region of the Porsche Club of America covers the East Bay: Alameda, Contra Costa and Solano counties. Its weekly Saturday breakfast in Walnut Creek, three monthly dinners, Porsches and Pastries, tours and track days.

The area Diablo covers

The Diablo Region’s About page dates its recognition by PCA’s Executive Council to 18 February 1984, covering Alameda, Contra Costa and Solano counties. Its city list runs from Oakland, Berkeley, Fremont and Livermore through Walnut Creek, Concord and San Ramon to Vallejo, Fairfield and Vacaville. The PCA region finder returns Diablo for downtown Oakland.

The region grew out of breakfasts. East Bay members of the Golden Gate Region used to meet at a Denny’s in Walnut Creek, the About page recounts, and the first roster had 37 members: 35 transfers from Golden Gate and two newcomers. That Denny’s is now the Buttercup, and after stops at Cocos and Marie Callender’s the breakfast is back in the same spot. The annual John Clever Award honors the first president. The About page now puts membership at about 2,000, including associates.

The Saturday breakfast

The weekly breakfast is still the anchor, and the About page calls Diablo the only PCA region that holds one. It runs every Saturday from 7:30am to 11am at Buttercup, 660 Ygnacio Valley Road in Walnut Creek, in the back room, with no registration. The recurring events page puts it plainly: “Parking lot tire kicking is optional.” The site calls the restaurant both Buttercup Pantry and Buttercup Grill; the address is the same.

Dinners and meetups

Three dinners repeat monthly, per the recurring events page. Dine With Diablo meets on the third Wednesday from 6pm to 9pm at a different restaurant each month and asks for registration so it can give a headcount. Porsches, Plates and Pals is the second Wednesday dinner for members in Napa and Solano counties. Porsches and Pints meets on the fourth Tuesday from 6pm to 8pm, location changing monthly, no registration.

Threads and Treads, started in 2017, meets on the second and fourth Tuesday from 6pm to 9pm in a back room at Black Bear Diner, 807 Camino Ramon in Danville. Members knit and crochet hats and blankets for local hospitals, and beginners are taught. It skips the Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks.

Porsches and Pastries is the weekend car meet, generally on the first or second Sunday and open to all Porsche owners. The 2026 run used Porsche Livermore, the Fremont Hub, Caymus Suisun Winery in Fairfield, the Blackhawk Museum in Danville and the Bishop Ranch garage in San Ramon.

Tours and track

The Tours page describes club-run drives on planned routes with set start and end points, led by volunteer leads, relays and sweeps on club-owned radios. The region charges $10 a person to cover planning and pre-driving, plus any lunch or entry costs. Quotes on the page come from tours to the Marin Headlands, Berryessa and Napa Valley, Apple Hill and the Año Nuevo New Member Tour, plus Ladies Only, Lunar New Year and Porsches and Pups outings. Diablo members get an early registration window, sometimes with a discount, before popular events open to everyone.

On track, the Driver Ed page sorts drivers into beginner, intermediate and advanced run groups, with in-car instruction for beginners until they are signed off to drive solo. A two-hour DE 101/201 chalk talk a couple of weeks before each event is mandatory for beginners. Its FAQ covers Laguna Seca and Thunderhill, noting that helmets can be rented at Thunderhill but not at Laguna Seca, and posts the PCA expiration rules for Snell SA2015 helmets.

The region emails a Weekly Blast of upcoming events and publishes a quarterly magazine, the Advocate.

New members

New members get a New Member Handbook, can order a name badge (the About page says it makes it easier to break the ice) and have their own New Member Tours. National dues and the join form are on the PCA club page.
