The area Carolinas covers
The region’s About page describes an area covering most of North and South Carolina and calls it the largest PCA region by geography. It was formed on 3 December 1960 with 31 members in Greensboro, and Harold Neal was its first president. In the early years, the About page recounts, meetings were held in members’ homes, some members drove 200 miles or more with children in tow, and visits sometimes turned into sleepovers.
Areas grew out of that distance, and three of them became regions of their own: Hurricane in 1995, and Appalachian and Three Rivers in 2015. Today the board page lists seven areas, each with an area director and a monthly meeting: Hickory, Lake Norman, Metrolina, Sandhills, Triad, Triangle and Upstate. PCA recognizes only the region, not the areas, and every region and area event is open to all members of the region. The home page counted 2,798 primary members and 4,306 total members in September 2026.
Area meetings and weekend meetups
The region’s area meetings page opens them to current and potential PCA members. They run about an hour, usually at a restaurant, a Porsche dealer or a Porsche business, sometimes with a tech session and a drive and dine afterward. The September 2026 Tobacco Roads, the monthly newsletter, gives the venues: Metrolina at Red Rocks Café on Providence Road in SouthPark, which also hosts its December Christmas party and dinner; Lake Norman on the second Tuesday at Lakehouse Bar and Grill in Cornelius; Hickory at FOURK Restaurant; and the Triangle on fourth Thursdays at 6:30pm at Carolina Ale House in Durham.
The same issue lists the weekend meetups by area. Metrolina gathers on the first Saturday from 8am to 10am at Porsche Charlotte Northlake, 10205 Ronald Withrow Boulevard, and for Stuttgart Saturday on the second Saturday from 9am to 11am at Hendrick Porsche. Lake Norman adds Cars and Cappuccino at SouthPark Mall on the third Sunday from 8am to 10am. The Triangle meets on the first Saturday from 9am to 11am at Southpoint Porsche in Durham, then rotates through Hillsborough, a Durham Panera and Breakaway Café in Chapel Hill on later Saturdays. The Triad uses Truist Stadium in Winston-Salem on the second Saturday, and Sandhills meets in the Village of Pinehurst and at Pine Scones Cafe in Southern Pines.
Track and autocross
The autocross series runs at the Michelin proving grounds in Mountville, South Carolina, and the Winston-Salem fairgrounds, per Tobacco Roads. Driver education is the bigger draw. “We welcome and accept all makes of cars at Carolinas Region DE’s,” the newsletter’s DE notice reads, though PCA members get confirmation priority for the first two weeks of registration. The region’s club race, the Carolinas Challenge, runs at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina, with DE groups alongside, and the Triad area organizes Lunch and Laps days at VIRginia International Raceway. First-time DE students are asked to read the region’s guide before registering on ClubRegistration.net.
Region-wide, the About page lists SommerFest (a three-day, multi-event weekend), a People’s Choice concours, spring and fall tours, area holiday parties and a membership appreciation party. Areas add chili cook-offs, wine tours, dinner drives, rallies and swap meets, and many events carry a charity raffle.
New members
Each issue of Tobacco Roads welcomes the month’s new and transferring members by name, town and area, and the area meeting is the first place to meet them. Dues and the join form are on the PCA club page.
