How the county’s weekend runs
Saturday has two meets twenty minutes apart and two hours apart in spirit. Cbad Cars opens at 7am in a Carlsbad shopping center lot and closes at 9am with no lingering. Rancho Santa Fe Cars and Coffee opens at 8am on the village streets and runs to 11am, with rules written for the residents and the horses. Sunday is Escondido: Kit Carson Park from 8am, free, with coffee and sometimes pancakes, fifty to a hundred cars.
Street, lot, park
Each meet is on a different kind of ground, and the rules follow. Rancho Santa Fe is public street, so the organizer asks for quiet arrivals and no standing in the road. Cbad Cars is a merchant’s lot that the meet has lost before, so the hours are strict. Escondido is a city park, which is why it has bathrooms and a griddle and no landlord.
Before you drive
Check the organizer’s Instagram the night before; all three meets live there. Arrive inside the window, park where the ground allows, and in Rancho Santa Fe keep the revs down for the horses on the trails.
