Two Saturdays, forty years apart
Orange County’s two standing meets bracket the whole history of the idea. Donut Derelicts has filled the lot at Adams Avenue Donuts in Huntington Beach every Saturday since 1985, hot rods and classics, no hours posted, over by sunrise. South OC Cars and Coffee fills the Outlets at San Clemente every Saturday from 9am to 11am and calls itself the world’s largest weekly car show. Drive to one at dawn and the other at nine and you have seen the county.
The meets that closed
Cars and Coffee Aliso Viejo, which drew 500 to 600 cars in 2017, is gone; South OC’s own history says it approached the San Clemente outlets “when rumors started about Aliso Viejo being closed down.” The original Irvine Cars and Coffee ended in December 2014. OC Cars and Coffee in Costa Mesa has become a monthly “Exotics and Espresso” with a new location “coming soon.” Malibu’s organizer says its events are canceled until further notice. None of them is listed here.
Before you drive
Both lots belong to merchants. South OC publishes its rules; Donut Derelicts never has, and never needed to. Arrive inside the window, park in a marked space, buy the donut or the coffee, and leave at a walking pace.
Where is cars and coffee in Orange County this Saturday?
Donut Derelicts in Huntington Beach from before dawn, and South OC Cars and Coffee at the Outlets at San Clemente from 9am to 11am, both every Saturday per their organizers.
Is Cars and Coffee Aliso Viejo still running?
No. Its organizer’s page says it is no longer around, and South OC’s history records the closure.
