What the chapter covers
The Golden Gate Chapter (GGC) of the BMW Car Club of America calls itself “northern California’s largest BMW enthusiast club.” Its mailing address is in Greenbrae, in Marin County, and its events run from San Francisco and the North Bay down the Peninsula to Los Gatos and Monterey County, with area representatives hosting meets in the North Bay and Monterey County.
Cars and coffee around the Bay
GGC hosts cars and coffee almost every month at venues across its region. The late-2026 calendar shows the spread: cars and coffee at Creighton Cafe in San Francisco, a North Bay meet at North Bay Bavarian, a Moss Landing meet for Monterey County, and BMWs & Bagels at Noah’s Bagels in San Francisco.
Vintage owners have their own morning. Neue Klasse & Kaffee, run with the BMW 2002 FAQ community, meets at Loma Brewing in downtown Los Gatos, in Parking Lot 3; Neue Klasse and other vintage cars are welcome, and so are people who only want to look.
From clinic to track
GGC’s driving program is built as a ladder. Car Control Clinics are one-day programs on a closed course at moderate speeds, with skidpad, slalom, threshold braking and emergency avoidance, and BMWs and other makes are welcome. The basic clinic is open to all ages and is the prerequisite for the advanced clinic and for GGC’s track schools. There is also a Teen Car Control Clinic for licensed drivers aged 16 to 21, a Wet Skidpad day and a Women’s Motorsport Day.
The autocross series has its own site. The 2026 season has five points events and a closing Top Driver Shootout for the Fechner Cup. First-timers are paired a few days ahead with a volunteer “buddy” who meets them at the event, and every novice gets a trained coach riding along; the series says nearly 40% of monthly attendees ask for coaching. Any BMW CCA member may enter, though only BMW and MINI drivers compete for trophies, SUVs are not allowed, and helmets must be Snell 2015 or newer. Fields are usually capped at 75 drivers, and registration for the next event opens at noon on the Monday after the last one.
On track, GGC runs High Performance Driver Education at Buttonwillow, Laguna Seca, Thunderhill and the BMW Performance Center, and says it has run HPDE for more than 30 years. Registration typically opens at least two months ahead. Advanced drivers can add Advanced Data Coaching, which the chapter has developed since 2014, or ask to be evaluated for Group S.
Weekend driving tours leave from around the Bay Area and range as far north as Clear Lake and as far south as San Luis Obispo, often ending with lunch. The calendar lists a South Bay Driving Tour on November 14, 2026.
How to start
GGC’s own advice is that cars and coffee is “a great way to get started with the club,” and its events page says cars and coffee and member meetups are open to the public. Driving events, tours included, require BMW CCA membership and advance registration. The chapter’s join page states that GGC welcomes members regardless of age, race, background, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability or veteran status. The BMW CCA overview covers dues and the join form.
